ATTIC INTAKE VENTS ARE IMPORTANT
Attic intake vents are an import component to proper attic air circulation.  Your attic configuration is key to maximizing your homes overall energy efficiency.  A properly configured attic has the following:
1) Attic intake vents at the eave or soffit of the roof line that allows external air to enter the attic space, while shielded from precipitation.
2) Exhaust vents higher in the roof allow air to flow out from your attic space.
3) Circulation of air is necessary to create an attic space that is closely matched to external temperatures.   In the Midwest, where it rains, snows, and can get very humid, circulation is often assured by installing a powered attic fan.
DON’T BE FOOLED!JUST BECAUSE YOU SEE INTAKE VENT PANELS AT YOUR SOFFIT OR EAVE, DOESN’T ALWAYS  MEAN YOU HAVE ATTIC VENTILATION.
Too often we find that homeowners believe they have intake vents because they see soffit or eave intake panels along the outside at the eave or soffit.  Seeing a vent on your eave or soffit doesn’t always mean air is flowing into your attic space.  One test you might use to determine air flow is to go up into your attic space, keep the light off and look to the eaves.  Are you seeing daylight? If not, there is a chance your soffit or eave vents are blocked or don’t exist.
